AI agent platforms for small teams in 2026: what each one is for

Zapier Agents, n8n, Lindy, Relevance AI, CrewAI, Copilot Studio and Nebula, sorted by the job they do, what they bill for, and who on your team will use them.

The Nebula team11 min read

There’s no single best AI agent platform for a small team, because the products under that name do four different jobs. Workflow builders (n8n, Zapier Agents, CrewAI) run agents as automations on a trigger. AI employees (Lindy, Relevance AI) give you a ready-made assistant that works through your tools. Suite builders (Microsoft Copilot Studio) add agents inside the software you already license. Agent workspaces (Nebula) are where people and several agents work in the same channels. Pick the job first, then the product.

We make Nebula, so read its row with that in mind. Everything below was read from each vendor’s own pages on 31 October 2026; prices are USD unless marked, and they move.

The four kinds of agent platform

Workflow builders are for someone who wants an agent to run when something happens (a form is filled in, a row changes, a schedule fires) and do a fixed set of steps, with AI where judgement is needed. You draw or code the flow; nobody chats with it much.

AI employees are for a team that wants a capable assistant it can ask for things in plain language, which then acts through your connected apps. You configure less and talk to it more.

Suite builders are for teams already standardised on one vendor, where an agent should live inside that vendor’s chat and documents.

Agent workspaces are for teams that want several agents with different jobs, working alongside the people in shared channels, with the work visible as it happens.

The platforms, one by one

Zapier Agents

“Create your own superhuman teammates in minutes… and have them do work across 9,000+ apps — on command and while you sleep” [S2]. Its strength is reach: Zapier’s app catalog, no code, and a free plan. Activities are the unit, and they include actions, web browsing and knowledge lookups, shared across a Team account [S1]. Bringing your own model is an Enterprise feature [S1].

Pick it if your team already automates with Zapier and wants agents that act across those same apps.

n8n

“The platform for agents and workflows you can follow” [S4]. You build visually and drop into code when you need to; you pay per workflow execution, with unlimited users and workflows [S3][S4]. A self-hosted edition is free under n8n’s fair-code Sustainable Use License [S3].

Pick it if someone on the team is comfortable building flows and you want agents on triggers, possibly on your own servers.

CrewAI

“The Enterprise Agent Build & Runtime for the work your business runs on” [S5]. A no-code editor that exports to Python, plus a code-first API; the open-source framework is MIT-licensed, and Enterprise can deploy to CrewAI’s cloud, your VPC or your own infrastructure [S5][S6].

Pick it if you have developers who want to define multi-agent crews in code.

Lindy

“The AI employee that plugs into your tools, learns how you work, and takes real work off your plate”, and “your whole team shares one Lindy” through Slack [S8]. Approvals happen as buttons in the Slack thread [S8]. Credits pool across every active user [S7]. Our Nebula vs Lindy comparison goes deeper.

Pick it if your team lives in Slack and wants one assistant there.

Relevance AI

“The home of the AI Workforce”, aimed at go-to-market teams: “even non-technical teams can stand up their own AI workforces in hours” [S9]. Pro includes bringing your own API keys [S10]. Its public pricing page and its docs disagree on which plans exist, so check before you budget [S9][S10].

Pick it if you’re building agents for sales and marketing work and want templates for that.

Microsoft Copilot Studio

“A platform for creating and managing custom agents, workflows, and apps with no code” [S11]. Agents publish into Teams and Microsoft 365 [S12], and computer use lets an agent work on a Windows computer’s websites and desktop apps [S15]. Licensing is tenant-wide credit packs, alongside the $30 per user/month Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on [S11].

Pick it if your company is already a Microsoft 365 shop and your agents should live in Teams. Our Nebula vs Microsoft Teams and Nebula vs Microsoft Copilot pages cover that choice.

Nebula

A workspace where agents are members of your channels, with their own identity, tools and computers [S13][S14]. It runs Nebula’s own agents, coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex on the plan you already pay for, and agents you build, and a request becomes a task you can follow in a thread [S14]. A seat is $25 a month, and a subscribed workspace starts with a cloud device agents can work on [S13][S16].

Pick it if you want several agents, coding agents included, working in the same rooms as your team. See what an agent-native workspace is and computer use for AI agents.

How to choose in five questions

  1. Will people talk to it, or will it run on triggers? Triggers point to n8n, Zapier Agents or CrewAI. Conversation points to Lindy, Relevance AI, Copilot Studio or Nebula.
  2. Who builds it? A developer can use any of them; CrewAI and n8n reward one most. Nobody technical points to Zapier Agents, Lindy or Relevance AI.
  3. What does it bill for? Executions and activities reward predictable flows. Credits reward light, varied use. Seats reward heavy use by a fixed team.
  4. Where does your team already talk? Slack points to Lindy, Microsoft Teams to Copilot Studio. If the agents’ work should sit in its own channels and calls, that’s Nebula.
  5. Do you already pay for an AI subscription? Nebula runs Claude, ChatGPT and coding agents on your own plan at no extra charge [S13]. Relevance AI’s Pro plan accepts your own API keys [S10]; Zapier offers bring-your-own-model on Enterprise [S1].

Common questions

What is an AI agent platform? Software for creating AI agents that act, not just answer: they call your apps, follow steps and run on their own. The products under the name split into workflow builders, AI employees, suite builders and agent workspaces.

Which AI agent platform is cheapest for a small team? It depends on the unit. Zapier Agents and CrewAI have free plans, and n8n’s self-hosted edition is free. On paid plans, n8n bills per execution with unlimited users, Lindy per active user plus credits, and Nebula per seat [S1][S3][S5][S7][S13].

Which AI agent platforms can I self-host? n8n has a free self-hosted edition, and CrewAI’s framework is open source with VPC or own-infrastructure deployment on Enterprise [S3][S5][S6].

Which platforms let agents use a computer? Copilot Studio’s computer use works on a Windows computer [S15]. Lindy drives a browser on its higher plans [S7]. Nebula agents work on a cloud device or on your own computer with computer use on [S16].
